You will want to remove the rubber mat when you are towing. In the instructions for the Companion Hitch, B&W states that if the truck bed has a removable bed liner or mat, it should be removed or cut to allow the base of the hitch to have direct contact with the bed.
If you do not want to remove the rubber mat when using the Companion, you can also cut the mat to allow the hitch to have direct contact with the truck bed.

The DeeZee Custom-Fit Truck Bed Mat part # DZ86917 is very good about staying in the bed of the truck with no additional help. It is a 3/8" thick mat that's quite heavy and there are no issues with it catching air and flying out.

I have read many reviews of the BedRug Custom Truck Bed Mat - Bed Floor Cover for Trucks with Drop-In Liners, part # BMN05CCD. Most of the reviews were good, but most of the people who owned this truck bed mat used additional means of securing, not just the plastic screw in studs. If you do purchase this item I suggest using a secondary adhesive to help secure it to your truck bed. Velcro seems to be preferred method.

In regards to the Access Custom Truck Bed Mat part # A45BG which is a fit for a 2023 Nissan Frontier, you do indeed need to drill per the instructions. The drilling is done with a 7/64" drill bit and only into the first layer of the truck bed. You'll then use some screws to secure the snaps to the bed but the screws are only designed to go through the first layer of the truck bed so they won't cause any damage to stuff underneath. view full answer...
To use the B&W # BWRVK3270 Patriot, the mat would either need to be removed or you can cut holes in the mat for the bed rails. The bed rails absolutely need to have direct contact with the bed floor. If the mat was sandwiched in between the rails and the bed, over time the mat would break down, causing the rails to loosen which would be really bad.

First off make sure you have the correct bed mat for your truck. The DeeZee mats are custom designed and part # DZ86985 is specifically for the 5-1/2 foot bed Toyota Tundra from 2007 to 2019. If you have the correct mat for your truck you should roll the mat out and put some weight on the edges of it for a bit to get it to sit flat. The puck areas for the underbed mounting system on your truck are visible on the WeatherTech Techliner, # WT39601. But they are not round, they are square and you can see them on the mat. The area that needs to be trimmed away has to be larger than the diameter of the pucks because you also have to account for the hitch legs and access to the levers used to secure the hitch in the pucks.
